The Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA) is a publicly traded health insurance company headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

With a history of health insurance services and products dating back 125 years, the present company is the result of a merger with the insurance company of North America (INA) in 1982. CIGNA provides health care insurance products including managed medical cover, integrated indemnity, pharmacy and dental care services, plus group life and health insurance for employed

individuals. CIGNA has operations through-out the continental US.

The Cigna dental insurance plan is a Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) type of plan where a member selects a dentist or dental facility from the options available in the Cigna network. These dentists commit themselves to handle all your oral health and dental needs as per the Cigna insurance policy. Cigna ensures that the standards of the service that their members receive from dental professionals are high; they do this by making regular inspection visits to the dentists in their network.

Cigna’s dental insurance plan differ from most insurance policies in that you do not have to wait a specified number of months before the insurance company will agree to meet 100 percent of your dental expenses. This translates into the freedom of receiving immediate treatment and professional attention for your dental needs without the added concern of paying the typical 20 percent of your dental expenses. In addition, Cigna’s dental insurance plans do not require any co-payments for diagnostic, palliative, and preventative care. There are no extra fees for referrals or second doctor’s opinion.

Cigna dental insurance offers policy holders coverage from most preventive and diagnostic dental services under the basic scheme. The package will include 2 teeth cleaning sessions and exams every year as well as a free x-ray and 2 fluoride treatments for children under their dental plans.

Those individuals with special needs – for new braces for example, or who require specialty dental attention, can choose a plan that provides broader coverage or one tailored to their needs. Before agreeing to any dental plan, Cigna requires its members to choose one general dentist. This does not limit them from accessing care from other dental professionals as they can get referrals when the need arises.

Cigna’s dental care value plans are available to employers to provide dental cover to employees who need specialty care. Typically these value plans are tailored to provide coverage at reasonable costs to the companies that need them.
