research. Knowing some basics of how dentals plans are offered and how it works could help you choose the most
affordable dental plan for your family.
Most dental plans include cleanings and checkups because it is believed these will prevent more costly dental
procedures in the future. Annual x-rays and cleanings are some of the procedures covered in basic dental care.
Minor and basic dental care is covered by most full coverage dental plans but it is always better to ask you
dental company what is included in your coverage. Some affordable dental plans may not cover basic dental care but
larger procedures may be covered. Whilst other affordable dentals plans may have basic care coverage only. So you
really need to choose the right plan to make sure it fits your needs.
All normal dental procedures are included in full coverage dental plans. The number of cleanings you will have
per annum may be limited to two but the other procedures and services will all be included.
Levels of Coverage
Minor Dental Care – caps, root canals, fillings, bonding of teeth and other smaller procedures with a lesser
cost are included. Not everyone needs them done so they can not be called universal procedures.
Major Dental Care – procedure like surgery, orthodontics or dentures are included. Major dental care is not
covered by most types of extremely inexpensive dental plans. If you’re looking for affordable dental plans, make
sure to choose a plan that helps with these procedures. Whilst it may be rare to require these major procedures it
is better to have coverage because these treatments cost a lot of money.
Cosmetic Dental Procedures – dental plans do not normally cover these procedures. One type of cosmetic dental
procedure that is not likely to be covered is whitening procedures. When you take out a dental plan, make sure to
check what is covered and what is not so you will know what to expect.
An affordable dental plan will provide the funds to help you keep a healthy mouth. Most of them cover
procedures that can achieve that aim.
