Aetna Dental Insurance
Aetna is a diversified and publicly traded health insurance company headquartered in Hartford City Connecticut
USA.
Founded in 1853, Aetna provides a range of health care insurance products and related services to people,
including medical, pharmaceutical, dental, behavioural health, group life, long-term care, and disability
plans.
They have operations through-out the U.S. and have gained popularity and a reputation for their Aetna Dental
Insurance Plans and their
Discounted Dental Plans. The Aetna Individual Advantage Dental Plan is available both for members aged 49 years
and below and one for members aged 50 years and above.
Aetna includes in its plans a basic level of cover and preventive care such as cleanings and x-rays, fillings,
extractions, and root canals. Other services and care that fall under major palliative care or treatment such as
dentures, bridges, and crowns is also available under their Aetna Individual Advantage Dental program. Aetna offers
its members a choice of dental plans that are either, Network Only, Network Optional, or Hybrid Plans.
A Network only plan covers for basic and preventive care without a requirement for preauthorization referrals,
when a specialist is sought from within Aetna’s preferred network. A network optional plan is similar to a network
plan but gives the client the choice of variable coinsurance levels, deductibles and maximum benefits levels should
they opt to seek services from a dentist who is not a member of the Aetna network.
Hybrid plans are designed for members who are interested in cover for treatment of dental ailments that fall
into the Major Palliative Care category; members can choose between an indemnity plan along with a DMO (Dental
Maintenance Organisation) plan and a PPO (Preferred Provider Plan) plan if they go the Hybrid way. Dental
procedures for example new crowns and dentures may receive partial coverage but this depends on the agreements in
the policy you will sign with Aetna; cosmetic dental procedures are typically not covered.
Aetna offers dental insurance policies to individuals, groups, and families and their Plus Plan has broader
coverage, but has higher monthly premiums. Prices may vary depending on which state you are applying from and what
treatments you wish to have covered.
The plans have deductibles and may include waiting periods of typically 18 months before 100 percent coverage
for your dental treatment and surgical procedures is available to you.
Before securing a plan with Aetna, you should contact an Aetna dental Insurance representative. They are
available from 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Sunday.
